Using the right wand is essential for every witch and wizard to unlock their full potential! Our custom wands are carved on our CNC machine using your design, then stained and finished by hand. There are already millions of combinations to choose from, and we're always working on more!

1. Choose your wand wood
Different types of wood have different properties, so start by choosing the one that best compliments your personality.

Click on the "View info and lore" button when selecting your wood for information on magical strengths as well as physical properties like weight and durability.

2. Design your wand
Wand designs include three sections: the handle, a center piece (optional), and the end. Each section has dozens of designs and 8 different color options, and the 3D viewer will show you what your wand looks like as you build it. Then you can choose the length of your wand and pick between a few finishing options.

3. Buy your wand!
If you're buying from Etsy please copy your design code and click on the "Buy on Etsy" button to make sure you buy from the correct listing, then enter your design code in the personalization area.

If you're buying from this site then just click "Add to Bag" and your design code will automatically be added to your Bag of Holding (cart). If you're buying more than one wand you can keep designing, and click "Add to Bag" to save each one to your Bag.

When you're finished, you can use the "Go to Checkout" button to complete your purchase, or visit our shop to check out our other items.

Every custom wand we make gets added to our Gallery before we ship it out, so that's a great place to start if you need some inspiration.

Clicking on the Gallery icons in the builder will also show you examples of that selection. And if you find a design you like follow the link back here to customize and order it for yourself!

It looks great and I enjoyed how customizable it was.

Standard wood product disclaimer:
Our wand builder's 3D rendering will give you an idea of what your wand will look like, but remember that wood is a natural product and even within the same species it will have variations in grain pattern, color, weight, and so on. No two wands will ever be quite the same!

Poplar

  Fairly durable
  Avg 0.78 oz (22 g)
  Medium gloss

Gallery

An excellent all-purpose wood for wand making. These wands are renowned for their consistent performance with a wide range of magic.

Poplar is a fibrous wood, and has a medium to low shine when finished. It usually has a creamy color with a subtle grain, though it sometimes contains streaks of grey or green.

Spruce

  Fairly durable
  Avg 0.74 oz (21 g)
  Medium gloss

Gallery

In Native American cultures Spruce trees are often used for cleansing and warding off evil spirits. These wands favor bold casters with a firm hand.

Spruce is a yellowish white wood with a relatively distinct grain, though the heartwood can be quite red. Colors tend to appear slightly lighter than on other woods.

Pine

  Use with care
  Avg 0.67 oz (19 g)
  Medium gloss

Gallery

Pine wands are best suited to wielders who are creative and flexible, and who prefer cleverness and imagination over raw power. They are also particularly good for non-verbal spells.

Light weight and reletively soft, Pine wood is usually white or yellow with a straight, fairly subtle grain. Stains well and evenly, resulting in strong colors.

Cedar

  Use with care
  Avg 0.62 oz (17 g)
  Medium gloss

Gallery

Well suited to healing and protection magic, cedar wand owners tend to be perceptive, loyal, and fiercely protective.

Our lightest wood, Cedar is reddish-brown in color with a very distinct grain which darkens quite a bit when finished. Stains appear deep and rich, darker than on other wood types.

Red Oak

  Quite durable
  Avg 1.19 oz (34 g)
  High gloss

Gallery

Oak has a grounding nature, and Red Oak wands favor owners who are brave and quick to action. The wand brings them focus and balance, making an excellent duelling combination.

A light reddish-brown colored wood with a very disctinctive flecked grain. Less absorbent than some other woods, Red Oak wands are usually a little lighter in color and a bit shinier than others.

Birch

  Fairly durable
  Avg 1.02 oz (29 g)
  Medium-high gloss

Gallery

Adaptable and fearless, Birch wands are particularly good at protection and purification magic. They favor brave owners, who will find them perfectly suited to warding off dark magic.

Birch is a light colored wood with a very subtle wavy grain that is barely visible when finished.

Maple

  Very durable
  Avg 1.19 oz (34 g)
  High gloss

Gallery

European Sycamore trees are a variety of Maple.

Known as the “Traveller’s wood”, Maple wands are best suited to those who are adventurous and creative. Their high mineral content makes Maple wands good at channelling a range of magical energy, making them very versatile.

Light colored and hard, Maple does not tend to absorb much stain. Compared to other wood types, finishes will be lighter and more glossy.

Alder

  Fairly durable
  Avg 0.74 oz (21 g)
  Medium gloss

Gallery

Historically associated with battle and survival, Alder wands have a fiery energy made for action. These complex wands form a unique bond, seeming to evolve with their owners over time.

Alder is a tan or light reddish-brown wood with a fine straight grain that doesn't stand out much when finished. Stains darker than most.

Ash

  Very durable
  Avg 1.13 oz (32 g)
  Medium-high gloss

Gallery

Considered by the Druids to be the most magical of trees, Ash wands are powerful and loyal. They amplify magic cast by their original owners, but will not work well for others.

Ash is a light brown or beige wood with a very distinct grain, similar in appearance to Oak.

Hemlock

  Fairly durable
  Avg 0.74 oz (21 g)
  Medium gloss

Not to be confused with the poisonous Hemlock plant, Native American legends often associate the resilient Hemlock tree with warmth and protective fire. These quick wands are reliable companions, lending their owners strength and perseverance.

Hemlock has a light reddish brown color similar to Cedar, but with a straight, tightly packed grain.

Cherry

  Quite durable
  Avg 0.95 oz (27 g)
  Medium-high gloss

Gallery

These powerful wands need an owner who is controlled and firm, and can be very dangerous in the wrong hands. Cherry wands don’t mind being shared, and excel at divination.

Cherry wood is a light brown color with a slightly pink cast. It's easy to work with and finishes well, making it a go-to choice for all sorts of fine woodworking.

White Oak

  Very durable
  Avg 1.27 oz (36 g)
  Medium gloss

Gallery

Solid, strong, and well grounded, White Oak excels in protective spells and charms. Wielders of these wands are dependable, wise, and unyielding, a source of strength to those around them.

A light grey wood that shares the same flecked grain pattern as Red Oak. Absorbs less stain than most, and combined with the greyish cast of the wood colors will appear slightly muted.

Black Walnut

  Quite durable
  Avg 1.02 oz (29 g)
  Medium-high gloss

Gallery

Walnut wands cultivate clarity, wisdom and confidence, and are often found in the hands of intelligent and innovative owners. They are adaptable when a proper bond is formed, capable of a wide range of magic.

A rich, chocolate colored wood (occasionally with a slight red or grey cast) with a fairly straight and subtle grain. Stains will turn out much darker than on most other wood types.

Fir

  Fairly durable
  Avg 0.85 oz (24 g)
  Medium gloss

Gallery

Symbolizing strength and immortality, Fir wands are best matched with owners who are focused and strong-willed. They are particularly well suited to transfiguration magic.

Similar to Cedar, Fir is a reddish-brown wood with a distinct grain which darkens when finished. Grain is very straight when viewed from the side, but can be wavy on the face.

Hickory

  Very durable
  Avg 1.34 oz (38 g)
  Medium-high gloss

Hard and unyielding, Hickory wands will find their best match in firm (and occasionally stubborn) owners with an iron will, who will find the wand enhances their strength and power.

Hickory is among the hardest and strongest wood species native to the United States, and features a light to medium brown color with a moderately visible grain.

African Mahogany

  Fairly durable
  Avg 0.88 oz (25 g)
  Medium gloss

Mahogany is a balanced wood focused on spirituality and guidance, and is best matched with an owner who is well rounded and down to earth.

A fairly dark reddish brown wood with a straight, coarse grain. Mahogany stains well, and colors will come out much deeper than on most other wood types.

Finish Options

Note: The following options won't show up on the builder model here, so we've included example photos to give you an idea how they'll affect your final design.

Color Transition

Gradient transitions have the colors blended for a more gradual change, usually over about an inch (depending on your design).

Hard transitions have a sudden color change, though colors may still bleed a little depending on how they are absorbed by the wood.

Glossiness

Semi-gloss wands look new and fresh, though their appearance varies some based on the wood used. In general, denser wood will have a shinier surface when finished.

Weathered wands have some of the stain worn off before we apply the finishing coat, giving them a more aged appearance. Weathering is less visible on Golden Pecan stain and dark wood like Walnut.
